The Christian Emergency League responds to Illinois Elections

Before the election, the Christian Emergency League challenged believers to not just vote for the lesser of two evils but only for those who deserve our vote. Those who deserve our vote must at least speak for the unborn and recognize God’s establishment of the family based on husband and wife. This we submit is a minimum.

What we see unfortunately in Illinois is that most voters in our state are not concerned with such when it comes to voting. Sadly economic self-interest and the status quo seem to be more important than truth. The Illinois Republican party seems to totally dismiss even the words of the Preamble of the Republican Party written just two years ago:

“The principles written in the Constitution are secured by the character of the American people. President George Washington said in his first inaugural address: “The propitious smiles of Heaven can never be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of order and right which Heaven itself has ordained.” Values matter. Character counts.”
If the Illinois Republican party and voters in our state could not even get through the Preamble it is not a surprise that further statements in the GOP Platform were ignored.

“The institution of marriage is the foundation of civil society. Its success as an institution will determine our success as a nation. It has been proven by both experience and endless social science studies that traditional marriage is best for children. Children raised in intact married families are more likely to attend college, are physically and emotionally healthier, are less likely to use drugs or alcohol, engage in crime, or get pregnant outside of marriage. The success of marriage directly impacts the economic well-being of individuals. Furthermore, the future of marriage affects freedom.”

“Faithful to the “self-evident” truths enshrined in the Declaration of Independence, we assert the sanctity of human life and affirm that the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and endorse legislation to make clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. We oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion or fund organizations which perform or advocate it and will not fund or subsidize health care which includes abortion coverage. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life. We oppose the non-consensual withholding or withdrawal of care or treatment, including food and water, from people with disabilities, including newborns, as well as the elderly and infirm, just as we oppose active and passive euthanasia and assisted suicide.”

Tom Cross, Mark Kirk, Bruce Rauner, Judy Baar Topinka all say no to these statements. Let this sink in. Words like foundation of civil society and “self-evident” truths are proudly ignored by the new leadership of the Illinois GOP. No amount of whitewash can cover this stain. Should voters in Illinois be celebrating?

The doctor has perhaps cleared us of Ebola, for which we are thankful, but have we missed the words, you have inoperable, stage IV cancer?

The blessing of truth is that it does need a referendum. It doesn’t depend on hanging chads or electronic voting.

Christian voters in the state of Illinois, will we embrace God’s truth consistently or continue down the path to moral relativism even more?

The Christian Emergency League encourages those who did attempt to stand courageously for truth to not be discouraged. If you bowed when you heard the music played, we call on you to consider your ways and repent.

God’s Word would call us now to often be in prayer for Bruce and Diana Rauner. May their hearts be changed by the power of God’s matchless grace.

We further encourage all believers to contact the governor. Let him know that we are praying for him and also confront him with the truth of God’s Word.

Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him. (Psalm 2:12)

We are facing judgment from which no politician in his own wisdom will deliver us. When God is your enemy, your only hope is to cry for his mercy.
